The death toll rose to 25 in the Hampi Express accident which took place in the wee hours today at Penukonda in Ananthpur district of Andhra Pradesh. According to railway authorities, 13 charred bodies were recovered from the sleeper coach next to engine while 9 bodies were taken out from general coach. Three more persons succumbed to injuries in hospital. 36 more passengers who injured are being treated at various hospitals at Penukonda, Hindupur, Puttaparthi and Bangalore . The Hampi Express train travelling from Hubli to Bangalore rammed into a stationary goods train at Penukonda Railway station.
