In China, the death toll from flooding and landslides in the southern parts of the country has risen to 44. Eight people are still reported missing. The heavy rain storm which has battered Guangxi region since Monday also caused a crater of more than 70 metres wide in one village. Several thousand houses have collapsed and more than 140,000 people have been moved to safety.
