Death toll due to floods and related incidents risen to 111 since September 4 in J&K

In Jammu and Kashmir, the death toll in the flash floods and related incidents in the State has risen to 111 since September 4. In Jammu Division alone, the death toll is reported to be 101. Rajouri district administration confirmed the death of about 63 persons in the tragedy involving a Bus, which had got washed away in flash floods on Thursday. PTI quoting Army sources said that nine Army jawans washed away during rescue operation in Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir and efforts are being made to rescue them.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today arrived Srinagar and held a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The two leaders discussed steps to meet the situation arising out of the worst floods in the State in six decades. Accompanied by Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh, the Home Minister may conduct an aerial survey in the affected districts before proceeding to Jammu where he will undertake a similar exercise in the flood-affected areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts.

Due to incessant rains , the water level in most of the rivers across the State has crossed danger mark and the water level is rising alarmingly in river Jhelum in Srinagar and Tawi in Jammu.

National Disaster Response Force has rushed two more teams from Bathinda today for rescue and relief work in Jammu and Kashmir. According to an official release, one team will be dispatched to Srinagar while the other will to Jammu. On Friday, the NDRF had rushed six teams.
