In China, 19 people, including six tourists, were killed and 247 injured when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck a remote, mountainous part of Sichuan province last night. State television said 19 people have been killed, and most of those injured are not seriously hurt. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit a sparsely populated area 200 kilometers northwest of the city of Guangyuan. <br/><br/>According to the China Earthquake Networks Center,the quake's epicenter was located in the popular tourist destination of Jiuzhaigou at an estimated depth of 20 kilometers. The state-run Xinhua news agency said as many as 31,500 tourists had been evacuated from the quake zone. Officials said that a total of 108 aftershocks were recorded, all below 4.0 magnitude. <br/><br/>Police and firefighters are rescuing people trapped in the rubble. Hours after the last night's 7- magnitude, another 6.6-magnitude earthquake jolted the Jinghe County in northwest China's Xinjiang today morning. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for all-out efforts to rapidly organize relief work and rescue the injured people after the quake. <br/><br/>Sichuan province is prone to earthquakes. More than 70,000 people were killed in a quake there in 2008.
