Death toll at Ujjain Kumbha due to heavy showers, dust storm rises to 7

The death toll at the Simhastha Kumbha in Ujjain due to heavy showers and dust storm has risen to seven. While six people have lost their lives in a tent collapse, one was killed due to lightening. The state government has announced an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees each to the next of the kin of the deceased. Seriously injured will be given 50,000 rupees each, while those with minor injuries will get 25,000 rupees.<br/><br/>Senior officers of Ujjain reviewed the arrangements at a meeting last evening. The district administration said, there is no need to panic. Ujjain Division Commissioner Ravindra Pastore said, the electricity supply has resumed and municipal employees are clearing the water logging.<br/><br/>Alternate arrangements have been made for the stay of devotees, especially those who are part of panchkroshi yatra. Government and private schools have also been opened for the devotees. The second Parv Snan of the Simhastha is being held today.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Parv Snan of Simhastha Kumbh commenced in Kshipra river. Devotees are taking holy dip in Kshipra river. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who reached Ujjain to take stock of the situation, said that normalcy is fast returning in Simhastha area.<br/><br/>Mr. Chouhan visited District hospital Ujjain to meet the injured and said that the government will take full care of injured people. In several tweets, chief minister said that all civic amenities have been stored in the mela area.<br/><br/>He said that teams of officials have been deployed to ensure that sewage water does not flow in water of Kshipra. Mr. Chouhan said that food grains will be provided to devotees in mela area at convenient places.
