In Afghanistan, the death toll among foreign soldiers this year has reached 600 with killing of a NATO soldier in an insurgent attack on day. The current year has already proved to be the deadliest in terms of casualties among foreign soldiers since overthrow of Taliban rule in 2001.The toll was 521 in all of 2009 while a total of 2,170 NATO soldiers have been killed so far in the nine-year long war.The United States-led coalition has more than 150,000 soldiers in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban-led insurgency, which is at its most intense in the southern provinces of Kandahar and Helmand.Coalition forces claimed to have killed several militants when they came under in Sangin district of Helmand province on Sunday.A NATO statement said they used an air strike and two artillery rockets to neutralize the enemy line. Three other militants were killed in two separate incidents in Baghdis and Paktika province.
