Death sentence awarded to ten members for honour killing in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, 10 members of a family have been sentenced to death by a local court in Etah district in an honour killing case. Out of 13 accused in the case, ten were awarded death sentence, while one was acquitted by Special Judge R.B. Sharma yesterday. The remaining two are minors and their trial is taking place in a juvenile court. AIR correspondent reports that an 18-year-old girl, her lover and the lover's brother were killed by the family members and closed relatives of the girl in 2008. As per prosecution, girl’s father was against his daughter relationship with a local youth Udai Pal. The couple wanted to marry and both of them eloped. But when the couple returned, they were shot dead along with one of their relatives by the convicts.
