Death of Delhi rape accused is a major lapse by Prison dept: Home Minister

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has termed the death of a Delhi gangrape accused Ram Singh at the Tihar jail as a major lapse by the Prison department.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Monday, Mr. Shinde said, a magisterial inquiry is in progress. He said, the truth will come out in the enquiry. He said, it is too early to comment on the incident at the moment.

Speaking on the anti terror body, National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the home minister said, a note is being sent to cabinet and the proposal is being taken forward. He said, the idea has not been dropped.

Mr. Shinde also said progress have also been made in investigations into the recent twin blasts at Hyderabad.

The Home Minister said government has taken note of JKLF leader Yasin Malik sharing dias with the Master mind of Mumbai terror attack Hafiz Said in Pakistan and action will be taken at appropriate time.

Meanwhile, Women and Child Development minister Krishna Tirath has said Delhi gangrape prime accused Ram Singh may have committed suicide in frustration over the prospect of being jailed for life.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Monday, she said it would have been better if the law of the country had punished him.

Ms Tirath said his death should send a message to others who indulge in such activities.
