Death anniversary of Sufiya Kamal observed in Bangladesh

The 20th death anniversary of the legendary women's rights activist, freedom fighter and literary personality Sufiya Kamal is being observed in Bangladesh today.<br />'' <br />'' In his message on this occasion, President of Bangladesh M Abdul Hamid said that Sufiya Kamal will continue to inspire the new generation and the country remembers her for her struggle for equal rights for men and women.<br />'' <br />'' Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina said that she was one of the pioneers of progressive, democratic and women emancipation movements in Bangladesh.<br />'' <br />'' Born on June 20, 1911 in Borishal, Sufiya Kamal was an iconic figure who made immense contribution towards women's right and progressive thinking in Bangladesh. She was active during the language movement of 1952 and the liberation war of Bangladesh.<br />'' <br />'' She was also a poet, editor and author for which she got a number of literary awards including the highest literary award of Bangladesh Ekushey Padak. <br />''
