The deadlock over the Goods and Services Tax, GST continues with the GST Council meeting, headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, remaining inconclusive today. Briefing media after the meeting in New Delhi, Mr Jaitley said some issues remain to be discussed and the Council will meet again on 16th of this month. He said issue of high seas being part of Centre or state territory is close to resolution. Mr Jaitley said a constitutional solution has to be found that should be legally tenable. <br/><br/>The next meeting of the Council would discuss the issue of jurisdiction over assessees as well as try to reach a finality on taxation of territorial waters. The Minister said states have a very positive attitude and their case is that they should be allowed to raise taxes. He said the GST Council discussed six economic sectors, including telecom, IT, and insurance. Mr Jaitley said the sectors made their case for centralised registration. He also said the third IGST law was discussed, and initial 10 of its 11 chapters have been approved. On roll out of GST from first April, Mr Jaitley said government knows the difficulties and it is moving against time. Replying to a query, he said his Ministry has asked states to give month-wise tax revenue data to see demonetisation impact on their revenues.
