In Puducherry, the deadlock on seat sharing between major political parties continues, even as filing of nominations enters the third day. Only a few independent candidates and a candidate from the BJP have filed their papers so far. The filing of nominations close on Saturday. AIR correspondent reports that senior congress leaders from the union territory including Union Minister Mr. V.Naayanswamy, Chief Minister Mr. V.Vaithalingam, PCC President Mr. A.V.Subramanium have been camping in Delhi to brief the party high command on the discussions they have had with the DMK leaders on seat sharing. The Congress has been demanding 20 of the 30 seats in the union territory, while the DMK is also insisting that it be allotted more than it had contested in the last assembly elections. Two rounds of talks between the seat sharing committees to find a resolution to the stalemate have not yielded any results. The Ruling Congress had contested 16 seats, while its ally the DMK had fielded 11 candidates in the 2006 elections. The Congress front has also the PMK and VCK, which are also demanding sufficient seats. On the AIADMK front also there has been no tangible progress on seat sharing talks with the newly floated All India N.R.Congress headed by Former Chief Minister Mr N.Rangaswamy. The AIADMK leadership is likely to take a call on the alliance in Puducherry, only after it resolves the problems with the alliance partners in neighbouring Tamil Nadu. The left parties are also in the AIADMK front. Meanwhile, the lone MDMK MLA in the union territory has resigned on Monday. The decision comes in the wake of the Party general Secretary Mr Vaiko announcing that the MDMK will not contest the polls this time.
