In Odisha, deadlock continues over the abduction of two Italian nationals by Maoists. There has been no headway in freeing the two foreign nationals as the Maoists have not yet nominated their representatives to discuss the matter with the Odisha Government.Meanwhile, the state government has received a pamphlet from the Secretary of Odisha state committee of CPI(Maoists), containing 13 demands for release of two Italians, Paolo Bosusco and Claudio Colangelo. The Maoists have given the state government a deadline till today evening to meet their demands.Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, once again made a strong appeal to the Maoists to free the foreign nationals on humanitarian ground and not to harm their hostages.Making a statement in the Odisha Legislative Assembly today, Naveen Patnaik said, the state government is examining the demands of the Maoists made in the pamphlet.Meanwhile, the Italian Ambassador to India has spoken to the Odisha Chief Minister and enquired about the abducted persons. Mr. Naveen Patnaik also spoke to Union Minister of External Affairs, SM Krishna and Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram over the abduction issue.The opposition Congress, BJP and other political parties today expressed serious concern about the abduction of two Italian nationals in Kandhamal district of Odisha.The Congress also held Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who holds the Home portfolio, responsible for failing to control Maoist activities which led to the abduction.
