Doordarshan will telecast award-winning and acclaimed documentaries on social issues at prime time on Sunday mornings from January.
These films will be telecast on various Doordarshan channels in different Indian languages over five years.
An agreement for this was signed by Indian Documentary Producers Association and Doordarshan. It was facilitated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni.
This was disclosed by President of the Association Mike Pandey while addressing a press conference at the 42nd International Film Festival of India at Panaji, today.
He said every television channel has a social responsibility to show documentaries which are agents of change in any society. He said the Association has asked the government for a dedicated documentary channel to reach to the masses with social issues.
He also requested to Film Producers Association and others to revive the 20 minute slot meant for documentaries before the start of a movie in cinema hall.
