The Modified Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG, DBTL, scheme will be relaunched in 54 districts tomorrow. In the DBTL scheme, LPG consumers in 54 districts of 11 states will be able to get cash subsidy to buy the cooking fuel at market price. The scheme will cover 2 crore 33 lakh households in first phase covering 54 districts which will start tomorrow and second phase will cover rest of the country which is scheduled to start January next year.
Kerala will be the first state to see the roll out of DBTL scheme in all its 14 districts where the Aadhaar penetration is 92 per cent. When the scheme was launched in June last year, it was mandatory to have unique identification number, Aadhar number to avail cash subsidy but after the scheme was modified, requirement of Aadhar number was excluded to get cash subsidy. Under the new scheme, LPG consumers will get cash subsidy in their bank accounts.
