The UPA government's Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG has been a resounding success with over 4.5 million direct cash transfers amounting to 187.65 crore rupees credited directly to LPG consumers' bank accounts till the 20th of this month. The LPG subsidy cash tranfers have been credited to the bank accounts of the consumers in 20 districts. A Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry release said, all Aadhar linked domestic LPG consumers get an advance of 435 rupees in their bank accounts as soon as they book the first subsidised cylinder before delivery. Our correspondent reports that the centre will roll out the scheme in 35 more Aadhaar covered districts from the 1st of next month. With this, the total number of districts to be covered by DBTL will be 55. The move will add about 1 crore 4 lakh LPG consumers in these districts taking the total number of LPG consumers to 2 crore 12 lakh who will receive the benefits directly in their bank accounts. The government had envisaged launch of DBTL scheme with an aim to curb leakages and prevent black-marketing and ensure that the benefit reaches the intended beneficiaries directly in their bank accounts.
