In Assam, the 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh called by banned outfit ULFA ended at six this evening peacefully. The bandh paralyzed normal life in all parts of the Brahmaputra Valley. It failed to evoke any response in the three districts of the Barak Valley. The bandh call was given by the outfit in protest against the arrest of two of their top cadres sheltering in Bangladesh. The two militants – self-styled foreign secretary of the outfit Sasadhar Choudhury and finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika- who were handed over to the Border Security Force by Bangladesh Rifles four days back, are now being interrogated by the joint Assam Police and Special Investigative Team at an unknown place. The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Guwahati remanded them for 10 day’s police custody.
