India have taken a One-Nil against New Zealand on the opening day of the Davis Cup Tennis Asia Oceania Group I relegation play-off Tie. In Chandigarh today, Yuki Bhambri gave the lead to the hosts when he defeated Daniel King Turner in five sets 3-6, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. The match lasted three hours and 15 minutes.In the second Singles, Vishnu Vardhan was leading by two sets to one against Kiwi Number One Jose Statham when bad light stopped the opening day's play. Vishnu won the first set at 6-2 and the third set at 6-4. The second set was clinched by Statham at 7-6. The second Singles will be completed tomorrow before the doubles match. The two Reverse Singles are slated for Sunday.
