Darjeeling hills in tension after killing of Gorkha League President

In West Bengal, tension prevailed all over Darjeeling hills after the murder of the President, All India Gorkha League, AIGL, Mr. Madan Tamang in Darjeeling this morning around 9 a.m. In view of the prevailing tension the district police administration has deployed additional security forces in various sensitive areas and the administration is keeping strict watch on the situation. The normal life was paralysed after the incident all over Darjeeling hills as ll shops, markets, business establishments including most of the educational institution were closed. <br/> <br/>Meanwhile, the state government has ordered an enquiry into the killing of Mr. Tamang. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee convened a high level meeting in Kolkata today and reviewed the situation in the hills. Police in Darjeeling today arrested some persons allegedly involved in the incident. The leaders of various political parties in Darjeeling hill has express grief over the killing of Mr. Tamang and urged the people to maintain peace and harmony at this juncture. The body of the slain leader has been kept for the people to pay this last respect at his house in Darjeeling near Batasia loop. It will be taken to his ancestral house at Meghma on Monday for the last rites.<br/> <br/>
