The West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee announced compensation of rupees two lakh to next to kin of the deceased and rupees 50000 to the seriously injured in the bridge collapse at Bijanbari in Darjeeling district on Saturday night,

The official sources said that the death toll following the mishap mounted to 33.

Earlier, Chief Minister visited North Bengal college and hospital in Siliguri and enquired about the conditions of the injured. Later she arrived in Darjeeling and visited Sadar Hospital.
