The Home Minister Mr P.Chidambaram has offered to quit his post in the wake of Dantewada massacre by naxals. According to PMO, the offer has been rejected by Dr Manmohan Singh. Addressing a "Shourya Divas function" of the CRPF in New Delhi today, Mr Chidambaram took full responsibility for the massacre which left 76 security personnel dead. Lauding the sacrifices of the paramilitary forces, Mr.Chidambaram asserted that government is making all out efforts to make their life comfortable and well equipped.<br/><br/> In a related development, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mr Buddhadev Bhattacharya today called for collective responsibility in tackling the naxal menace. <br/><br/>Talking to reporters in New Delhi, he called for revamping the plans and operations against the naxalites and said 28 news police stations are being set up in the state to counter naxalites. He also charged the Trinamool Congress of having links with the maoists in West Bengal. He told reporters that he will be taking up the issue with the Prime Minister after he returns from a week-long visit to the US and Brazil beginning tomorrow.<br/><br/>On the other hand, the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Mr Raman Singh said that a consensus is evolving among the naxal affected states to wipe out the menace.<br/> Political parties across the board have supported the Home Minister and said this is not the time to talk about resignation. The Left, the BJP and the Congress parties have urged the government to take more effective measures to deal with the problem.<br/><br/>The CPI leader Mr A.B.Bardhan says, a revised strategy to deal with the maoist menace is needed as the present policy has failed to pay the dividends.<br/><br/>Backing the Home Minister the BJP today urged Mr Chidambaram to take stern measures to deal with the naxal problems which is a grave threat to the internal security. Party Spokesman Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that BJP will support the government on the issue as it concerns the national security.<br/><br/>Congress Spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi while supporting the Home Minister said, a two pronged strategy is already in place to deal with this problem.<br/><br/>Talking to reporters he conceded that more coordinated efforts are needed to deal with this menace.
