Three days after the Panamian Ship sank off near the Mumbai coast, a danger of oil spill has become clearly visible today. According to Coast Guard Oil leakage has been observed in the area where the 225 meter long MV RAK sank off at an approximate rate of 1.5 – 2 tons per hour. Official stated that oil patches have been found in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai last night and the signs of an oil spill have started becoming clearly visible on the shores of Juhu and Gorai beaches in Mumbai since today morning. Following the oil spill, the Coast Guard has launched ‘Operation Paryavaran Suraksha 2/ 2011. As a part of this operation Coast Guard ship Samudra Prahari on patrol immediately responded and used oil spill dispersant to neutralize spilled oil.
