Dalai Lama inaugurates 100 feet high statue of Lord Maitraya in Nubra valley

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Buddhist Spiritual leader Dalai Lama who is on nine -day visit to Ladakh has inaugurated the 100 feet high Statue of Lord Maitraya -the future Buddha at Diskit Monastery in Nubra valley. AIR Correspondent reports that this statue is the highest statue in Ladakh and it was built in the span of six years at a cost of three crore rupees. Among the thousands of Buddhist devotees come from all over the world, the Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah and Tourism Minister Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora were also present on the occasion of inaugural ceremony. In his address, the Dalai Lama has expressed hope that the statue of Lord Maitraya Buddha will spread love, compassion, harmony and brotherhood in the region as well as in the world. Appreciating the development in all sectors of Ladakh , he also stressed on protection of environment by planting more and more trees in the region. Chief Minister Mr. Oma r Abdullah welcoming the Buddhist Spiritual leader Dalai Lama in Ladakh has said blessing of His Holiness will help to promote peace, love and harmony in the world and tourism in Nubra valley.
