Supreme Court has transferred the disproportionate assets case against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to the Delhi High Court. CBI had sought transferring the case from Himachal Pradesh High Court. It alleged that the judge, who had stopped the agency from arresting Virbhadra and his wife, had been Mr. Singh's lawyer earlier.

A bench of the Supreme Court today said it is simply transferring the petition to the Delhi High Court in the interest of justice and to save the judiciary from any embarrassment. It also ordered deletion of and counter allegations made by either parties against the High Court judge and the counsel representing CBI in the case.

The Chief Minister's advocate opposed the transfer saying it would send a wrong message that the State High Court is not fit enough to hear this case. Rejecting the submissions, the bench said it refers the case to Delhi High Court by invoking its extraordinary constitutional authority in the interest of justice.
