DA case: Jayalalithaa likely to move SC after Karnataka HC rejects bail plea

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others accused in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case are likely to move the Supreme Court today challenging the Karnataka High Court's order refusing bail to them.

The High Court rejected the bail pleas of the four convicts yesterday observing that corruption amount to violation of Human Rights. The Judge quoted various cases of Supreme Court under Prevention of Corruption Act and pronounced that there is no ground for bail to the convicts in this case.

The court not only refused to grant of bail but also declined to stay the sentence of four-year imprisonment and Rs 100 crore penalty imposed on her in the case.

The rejection of the bail plea threw up a wave of emotions for the ruling aiadmk throughout the State.

Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam took stock of the situation with his senior colleagues and top officials at the State Secretariat.

Later, he appealed to public to co-operate in maintaining law and order in the state.
