The Third Developing Eight ( D 8) ministerial level meeting on Industries concluded in Dhaka on Wednesday with the member states unanimously adopting a twenty two point Dhaka Declaration for promotion of closer trade and business cooperation among the member countries.Addressing a joint press conference at the conclusion of the conference, Bangladesh's Minister for Industries Mr. Dilip Barua said that the members have agreed to promote the private sector through the D-8 platform for enhancing trade and investment to enhance the pace of industrialization in member countries.Earlier addressing the inaugural session of the ministerial level meeting Wednesday morning, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed on the need for greater collaboration between D 8 countries to realize the Millennium development goals by promoting economic development of the people and poverty reduction initiatives.Bangladesh has hosted the third Developing Eight -D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Industries and the Seventh meeting of the working group on Industrial Cooperation for the first time in Dhaka.Delegates from the D 8 member states which includes countries like Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey and hosts Bangladesh participated in the three day conference. The fourth D 8 Ministerial meeting on Industries will be held in Egypt.AIR Correspondent reports, more than 150 delegates from the eight member states of the Developing Eight group participated in the conference hosted by Dhaka to promote trade and investment between members of the forum.In the Dhaka declaration adopted at the end of the Ministerial level conference, the member states have agreed to hold conferences, seminars, vocational training courses, workshops, industrial and commercial fairs and specialised meetings with the participation of both public and private institutions from their countries to promote intra group trade.The D-8 countries also agreed to increase joint research and development activities in the energy sector, particularly for developing energy efficient appliances with focus on increasing the share of renewable energy in the D-8 countries.Apart from the ministerial meeting , several other meetings were also held on the sidelines of the event focusing on different sectors like ready made garments, automotive, cement, ICT, energy and environmental conservation, food industries and technology cooperation as a part of the three- day conference.
