Cyclonic storm “Thane” intensifies; likely cross north Tamil Nadu

The cyclonic storm ‘Thane’ formed over south-west and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, about 740 km south of Gopalpur has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. The system is likely to move in west-north-westwards and intensify further during next 24 hours. The system is likely to cross north Tamilnadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast between Cuddalore and Sriharikota, close to south of Chennai on Friday morning. The cyclonic storm will come further close to coast after 24 hours, there is probability of slight weakening before landfall.According to Bhuhubaneswar Meterological office, rain or thundershower will occur at some places over coastal and south Odisha during next 24 hours under the impact of the severe cyclonic storm. Cold breeze will prevail all over the state for the next three days. Sea condion will be rough with sea wind speed of 45 to 55 kmph for which fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Distant Signal Number-Two has been kept hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports in Odisha.
