Fourteen People have been killed in Tamil Nadu due to cyclonic storm ‘Thane’ that hit the coast, on Friday morning. The damage was heavy in the districts of Cuddalore, Villupuram and Nagapattinam.
Eleven were killed in Cuddalore, two in Villupuram district and one in Thiruvallur district.
Thousands of people lost their home in Cuddalore district itself. In Nagapattinam, more than 1700 people have been taken to relief camps. In Chennai, the Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa convened a high level meeting with senior officials from Revenue, Fire and PWD and reviewed the situation.
The state government has allocated 150 crores for immediate relief and rescue measures. She has also ordered the State Ministers to visit the affected districts immediately to supervise the relief measures. Chennai is experiencing heavy rain since Thursday which has affected normal life.
The cyclone is moving towards west, interior parts of Tamil Nadu and it will weaken in its course, the met department informed.
