The Cyclonic storm 'Phyan' is likely to hit South Gujarat and North Maharashtra by late this evening. According to the latest bulletin from the weather office, the depression formed in the south east and adjoining central Arabian Sea yesterday, intensified into a cyclone early this morning and the system is likely to move north northeastwards and cross South Gujarat and North Maharashtra coast between Alibag in Maharashtra and Valsad in Gujarat by late this evening or night. It said, the sea will be very rough along and off Maharashtra and South Gujarat Coast and fishermen have been warned against venturing along the Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat coasts.<br/><br/> Cyclonic storm over East Central Arabian Sea moved Northwards and lay centred this morning about 250 kilometers West northwest of Goa and 350 kms South southwest of Mumbai and 620 kms South southwest of Surat in Gujarat. Met Office said, squally winds reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph are likely along and off Maharashtra and South Gujarat coast during the next 48 hours. <br/><br/> Mumbai and the adjoining suburbs have been experiencing light showers today. The met department has forecast heavy rains with gusty winds in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and people living in low-lying areas have been asked to move. There is also delay of up to 40 minutes in international and domestic flights, airport sources said. The Maharashtra government has ordered closure of schools and colleges. While the schools have been asked to shut down at 1 pm, offices have been advised to close by 2 pm. All the emergency departments are on high-alert.<br/><br/>AIR Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that sea conditions on Maharashtra and south Gujarat coast will remain very rough and fishermen have been advised not to venture the sea. Danger signals have been put up at all ports of South Gujarat and district administrations have been asked to remain alert.<br/><br/>Goa is also experiencing heavy rain along with Gujarat and Konkan Maharashra since last three days. This has put the normal life out of gear in the state.<br/><br/>In Karnataka, an alert has been sounded in coastal and South Interior Karnataka due to intensified cyclone Phyan. Due to gusty winds reaching 65 to 75 kms in the coastal region of the state, fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea.<br/><br/>
