A storm, which could intensify into a cyclone, is brewing in the Bay of Bengal packing wind speed of 55 kms per hour and is expected to hit the south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coast on Sunday evening.AIR correspondent reports that after emerging into south Andaman Sea on 2nd of this month as a low pressure area it has intensified into a depression and is currently lying at 1200 kms east-southeast of Chennai and 1300 kms southeast of Visakhapatnam.Meanwhile, the state Government has announced relief to farmers whose crops were damaged due to heavy rains. After an aerial survey in East and West Godavari and Krishna, the most affected districts, Chief Minster K Rosaiah has said the farmers who had no crop insurance would be provided input subsidy at the rate of Rs.4,500 a hectare. He said, the farmers who have crop insurance would be given compensation as per the norms. In the case of weavers whose looms suffered damage, Rs.3,000 per loom would be paid as compensation, he said after reviewing the situation with the Collectors and higher officials of the three districts. He said an assessment of the flood damage would be made only after water receded completely.While, about 50 thousand people are still taking shelter in over 100 relief camps as rain water has not receded completely. Each affected family will be provided 20 kg of rice and 5 litres of kerosene at the time of leaving the camps. Meanwhile, relief and restoration measures are underway.Meanwhile, the depression over southeast Bay of Bengal in Visakhapatnam has moved west and northwestwards and lay centred at 1000 km east-southeast of Chennai and 1150 km southeast of Visakhapatnam. It is expected to hit the south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coast on Sunday evening.
