Cyclonic storm ‘LAILA’ lay centered about 400 km east of Chennai

Cyclonic storm ‘LAILA’ over southwest Bay of Bengal moved north west wards and lay centered at 2.30 on Tuesday afternoon about 400 km east of Chennai. <br/><br/>The system is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongle and Visakhapatinam by early hours of Thursday morning. <br/><br/>Fishermen have been advised not venture into the sea off these coasts.<br/><br/>The Chennai met office director Mr Asokan told our Chennai correspondent that under the influence of the system, coastal areas of north Tamil Nadu and are likely to experience fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls from tonight. <br/><br/>The weather office bulletin issued this evening says Gale force wind with speed reaching 65 to 75 kilometers per hour is likely to commence along and off Andhra Pradesh coast from tonight.<br/><br/> It further says that that the wind speed may increase as the system moves closer to coast. <br/><br/>Squally winds speed reaching 50 to 60 kilometers per hour likely along and off north Tamil Nadu coast from tonight. The bulletin further says sea condition will be high to very high along and off Andhra Pradesh coast and very rough along and off north Tamil Nadu coast.
