Cyclonic storm Laila intensifies in Bay of Bengal

The coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh are gripped with severe cyclonic storm, Laila that lay centered at about 530 km west-southwest of Visakhapatnam in Bay of Bengal. The cyclonic storm over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal moved westwards and is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction for some time and then veer-off in a northwesterly to northerly direction and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Visakhapatnam by early hours on Thursday.<br/><br/>Under its influence squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60- kmph is likely along off north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast .A weather bulletin issued by the met office in Chennai says scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely very fall may occur over coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 36 hours. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may also occur over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the same period.
