Cyclonic storm named Komen over the northeast Bay of Bengal is moving northwestwards. Met department said the cyclonic storm has made landfall and is in the process of crossing Bangladesh coast between Hatia and Sandwip. Northern part of the cloud band already lies over land. The entire process of landfall would take a few hours.<br/><br/>The West Bengal Government has taken all necessary precautionary measures to deal with the influence of cyclonic storm Komen. Met office predicted that under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at South Bengal Districts of the State in next 48 hours. The State Government has alerted all the district administrations to meet any eventualities. Most of the South Bengal Districts are witnessing rain since this afternoon. <br/><br/>Seven districts of the State are facing flood like situation due to continuous rain and heavy discharge of water from reservoirs. 35 people have died in flood related incidents. 6,73,000 people have been affected. Around 27 thousand marooned people have taken shelter in 227 relief camps. Standing crop in vast areas have been damaged.<br/> <br/>In Odisha, the state government has asked collectors of five north and coastal districts to remain watchful on the impact of cyclonic storm 'Komen'. <br/><br/>Met Department has warned that under the influence of the cyclone, rainfall at most places and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places would occur over Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and South Assam in next 24 to 48 hours. <br/>In Bangladesh, the Disaster Management and Relief machinery is in full swing to manage the possible effects and damage by Cyclone 'Komen'. After an inter-ministerial meeting held at the secretariat this evening, Disaster Management & Relief Minister Muffafal Hossain Chowdhury said the government has stocked the cyclone shelters with supplies, evacuated the people at risk and deployed disaster response forces. He said the army has also been kept on alert. <br/><br/>5 people including a 5-year old child have been killed in Cox's Bazar and Bhola and six fishermen are missing. Over 3,000,000 path in thirteen districts on the expected pathway of the cyclone have been evacuated to 288 cyclone shelters which have been stocked with supplies. Disaster response forces have been deployed loud-speaker warnings are being given to people in risky areas. The storm has already uprooted hundreds of trees and damaged over a hundred houses in St. Martin island, off Cox's bazar. <br/><br/>In southernmost Teknaf area of Chittagong, over 300 houses have been either totally or partially destroyed. All operations on the water routes across the country remain suspended. River ports have suspended operations while maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Pyra and Mongla are under signal no. 7.
