Cyclonic storm ‘JAL’ moves westwards

The Severe cyclonic storm, ‘JAL’ moved westwards, and lay centered over south west Bay of Bengal at 650 km east-southeast of Chennai and 750 km southeast of Nellore. It would intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm and move in a west-northwestward direction to cross north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore close to Chennai by tomorrow night.Chief Minister K Rosaiah who has been monitoring the situation time to time, has directed the authorities to evacuate people from all the low laying areas in Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna and Guntur districts as the storm surge might be 2 meters more than normal on its land fall. Fishing activity has been totally suspended on the coast.Meanwhile, control rooms at Hyderabad and in the affected districts are working round the clock. Schools in these districts have been identified to set up relief camps and food and essential commodities have been stocked up. People have been urged to cooperate with the authorities for evacuation to prevent loss of life.
