Central Team which has been appointed to assess the damages due to Cyclone Vardah in northern districts of Tamil Nadu has assured that it would submit its report to the Union Home Ministry at the earliest. <br/><br/>The nine-member inter-ministerial team led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Praveen Vashishta called on the Chief Minister at his office in Chennai this morning. <br/><br/>A statement from the state administration says, Mr O.Panneerselvam thanked the Prime Minister for immediately deputing the Central Team. He narrated the magnitude of the damages saying infrastructural facilities like power distribution systems got severely damaged and more than one-and-a-half lakh trees were uprooted in the eight districts that bore the brunt of the cyclone. Later, the team members proceeded to inspect several locations in Chennai. <br/><br/>The Central Team is said to have gauged the intensity of the cyclone, based on various reports, even before arriving at Chennai. It has been given a briefing by senior officials of the state government after its meeting with the chief minister. <br/><br/>A state government release says the team has appreciated the quick restoration works undertaken by the administration. <br/><br/>The team has assured that it would make an in-depth assessment before finalizing its report. Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts are to be covered by the inter-ministerial team during its two-day tour till tomorrow.
