In Bihar, at least 56 persons were killed in cyclone and thunderstorm in eastern parts of the State. Maximum casualities of 28 have been reported from Araria followed by 25 in Purnia, two in Kishanganj and one in Supaul districts. Casualities are likely to increase as the reports from the remote areas are still coming. Over three thousand thatched houses blew up in a strong wind. Thousands of persons have become homeless. Expressing grave concern over the natual disaster, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed the district authorities to step up relief and rescue operations. Mr Kumar announced an ex gratia of one lakh fifty thousand rupees each to the next of kins. The Chief Minster has undertaken an aerial survey of the affectred areas to assess the damage.
