The severe cyclonic storm ‘Thane’ lay centred this morning250 kms east- south east of Chennai.It is likely to move west-wards and cross north Tamil Nadu coastbetween Nagapattinam and Chennai close to Puducherry tomorrow morning.Met department spokesperson informed that under its influence, therewill be rainfall at most places and over north coastal Tamil Nadu andPuducherry during next 48 hours.It may exceed even 25 cms in one or two places.There will be squally weather with wind speed of 60-75 kms per houralong and off the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from today. Hetold, gale force wind speed reaching 135 kms per hour would prevailalong off north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast at the time ofcrossing.The coastal district authorities, Puducherry government and ChennaiCorporation have taken series of precautionary measures to tackle thesituation.Fishermen are advised not to venture into Sea. Chennai is experiencingmoderate rainfall from this morning.
