Cyclone Ockhi: Rahul Gandhi writes to PM Modi; demands special financial package for rehabilitation of fishermen's families

Congress President Rahul Gandhi today wrote to PM Narendra Modi, demanding a comprehensive special financial package for Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep for rehabilitation of families of fishermen who lost their lives due to Cyclone Ockhi.<br/><br/> In his first letter as the Congress chief to the prime minister, he requested Mr. Modi to help put in place adequate measures for strengthening the weather update system and advance cyclone warning communication mechanism in the coastal areas.<br/>The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Kerala on Tuesday to take stock of the post-Ockhi situation in the state.<br/>Meanhwhile, the Kerala government has decided to expand the search operations up to Goan shores in view of over 100 fishermen still found missing in the cyclone. The decision to intensify the search mission was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthpuram today. <br/> <br/> The state government also requested the Centre to meet expenses of the search operations conducted by defence personnel in the wake of the cyclone. Home Minister Rajnath Singh had assured Mr Vijayan to send a central team to Kerala to take stock of the havoc.<br/>
