The cyclonic storm Nilam was kind enough on Andhra Pradesh which is observing its Statehood Day today.

Though the havoc it wreaked along the north coastal districts of Tamilnadu is yet to be assessed after its landfall at famous tourist village Mamallapuram near Chennai yesterday the cyclone spared Andhra coast during its march on to the land.

Incessant rains under its influence continued to lash even today all over the state as the huge mass of clouds the cyclone had brought in activated the north-east monsoon resulting in moderate to heavy falls and very heavy falls in isolated places in the areas and adjoining of Nilam’s footprint.

Low lying areas in south coastal AP and Rayalaseema are still under inundation due to flooding of escape routes and choked drains.

Though the rain and wind combined together had flattened standing Kharif crop in Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur and Chittoor districts the damage caused to life and property was minimal as the government was fully geared up activating the national disaster management teams.
