Cyclone: National Disaster Response Force put on alert

The government has put the National Disaster Response Force, NDRF batallions on alert in Gujrat and Maharastra in the wake of the heavy rains caused by the Cyclonic depression. In addition, the NDRF teams comprising 400 trained personnel with boats and other equipments have been pre-positioned in Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Another 200 personnel have been kept in readiness for Mumbai. The Ministry of Defence has also been alerted. The Indian Meteorological Department, IMD, has alerted Maharashtra on the possibility of heavy rainfall in the Central Maharashtra region. With the cyclonic system moving north-eastwards, the IMD has withdrawn the warning from Gujarat and Goa.<br/>
