Cyclone Komen hits B'desh coast; heavy rains in WB, Odisha

Cyclonic storm Komen hit the Bangladesh coast yesterday evening and bringing with it heavy rainfall in gangetic West Bengal and Odissa. Met department said that after making landfall in Bangladesh it will move west-north-westward and weaken gradually. <br/><br/>West Bengal Government has taken all necessary precautionary measures to deal with the influence of cyclonic storm Komen. State government has alerted all the district administrations to meet any eventualities. Seven districts of the state are facing flood like situation due to continuous rain and heavy discharge of water from reservoirs. 35 people have died in flood related incidents. Six lakh 73 thousand people have been affected. Around 27 thousand marooned people have taken shelter in 227 relief camps. Standing crop in vast areas have been damaged. <br/><br/>In Odisha, the state government has asked collectors of five north and coastal districts to remain watchful on the impact of cyclonic storm Komen. Met Department has warned that under the influence of the cyclone, rainfall at most places and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places would occur over Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and South Assam in next 24 to 48 hours.
