Cyclone kills dozens in Myanmar

In Myanmar, dozens of people have been killed and a number of villages destroyed by a cyclone that hit Western parts of the country. Twenty-nine people were killed when Cyclone Giri hit Rakhine state on Friday. The death toll may go as high as 100. The Red Cross says a number of villages have been all but wiped out. The cyclone hit the coast with 190-kilometre-per-hour winds. Up to 60,000 people are apparently in need of help, but details from the poorly serviced region are vague.
