Cyclone alert for north Tamil Nadu, south Andhra Pradesh

The Chennai Met office has said that the depression which lay centred 500 Km southeast of Chennai and 270 Km north east of Trincomalee would intensify further into a cyclonic storm and cross north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra coast between Nagapattinam and Nellore by tomorrow. Heavy rains all through the night due to depression, have thrown life out of gear in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore and Tiruvarur. Local Cautionary 3 has been hoisted all along coastal Tamil Nadu as squally winds at a speed of 65 to 75 Kilometre per hour is expected to hit. The sea will be very rough and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. The district administrations have geared up to face any eventuality. Holiday has been declared for schools in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Chennai. Two fishermen who ventured into the sea from Kodiakarai in Nagapattinam are still missing and coastguard, navy men are searching for them. There are many fishing boats still in the sea and they are being advised to immediately return to land.In Andhra Pradesh, Government has sounded a high alert along the south coastal and adjoining Rayalaseema districts as the deep depression in the South-West Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and cross the coast between Nellor and Nagapattinam by tomorrow evening. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has asked district collectors to be vigilant and take all precautionary measures to avoid any human lose. The district authorities have been directed to be prepared to face any eventuality and utilize the services of armed forces if required. They have been advised to take steps to evacuate people from low laying areas. Special Control Rooms have been set up at collectorates in Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna and also in Hyderabad.Meanwhile, a mild intensity earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 on Richter scale shacked several parts of the State last evening. One of the National Geophysical Research Institute scientists said the epicenter was 20 kilometers from Narsaraopet in the state. The tremors were felt some seconds in Prakasam, Nellore, Khammam and Krishna districts.
