CWG2018: Sathish Sivalingam gives India its third Gold medal in Weightlifting

Weightlifter Sathish Sivalingam (77kg) claimed India's third gold medal in the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast today. He won the coveted medal in men's 77 kg, coming out tops comfortably. The Indian lifted a total of 317kg.  England's Jack Oliver won the Silver while the Bronze medal went to went to Australia's Francois Etound.  At the previous 2014 Commonwealth Games, Sathish won the gold medal with 149kg snatch and 179 kg clean and jerk lifts, totalling 328kg.  All the Indian medals so far have come in weightlifting events.

President Ram Nath Kovind has congratulated Sathish Kumar Sivalingam for bagging the Gold in Commonwealth games. In a tweet, Mr Kovind said, weightlifters, continue to make India proud.

In men's hockey,  India drew with Pakistan 2-2 in their first group match today. The other teams in the group are England, Malaysia and Wales.
In Table-Tennis, Indian paddlers entered the semifinals of both men's and women' team events. Both the men's and women's teams defeated Malaysia 3-0 in their respective quarterfinal matches.  
 
In Badminton, India outplayed Mauritius 3-nil to advance to the semifinals of mixed team event.  India will take on Singapore in the last four stage tomorrow. Singapore had beaten hosts Australia by a similar margin in another quarterfinal match.
