Shekhar Deorukhkar, arrested for his role in the multi-crore rupees overlays scam in connection with Commonwealth Games was remanded in two more days of CBI custody on Thursday. Shekhar is a close aide of former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi. Special CBI Judge O P Saini said, considering the nature of the case and the allegations levelled against the accused, he is satisfied that further police custodial interrogation is required to unearth the entire conspiracy. The court extended Deorukhkar's custody with the CBI on its plea that the investigation into the case was not yet complete and that the accused is being evasive in replying to the queries posed by the agency. The court also directed the CBI to get Deorukhkar medically examined after every 48 hours. He is the fifth person to be arrested in the scam in which nearly 600 crore rupees worth contracts relating to the Games' overlays project are under the scanner of various agencies.
