CWG: India's Pinki Rani bags bronze in Boxing

India opened the 9th day of Glasgow Games with a bronze medal in boxing. With more boxing semi final matches slated for later tonight, India would look to assure a strong position in the medals tally. Currently India is standing 5th with 13 Golds 20 Silver and 15 Bronze.Pugilists have started their mark for medals. India's first medal in Commonwealth's Women Boxing came from Pinki Rani in the 48 to 51 kg category. She lost the semi final bout to Michaela Walsh from Northern Ireland. Thus, settling for a bronze. Olympian Vijender Singh in 75 kg, Manpreet Jangra in 69 kg, L Devendro in 49 kg, and Laishram Devi in the Women's 57 to 60 kg will be seen in the penultimate round tonight. India has high hopes from it's pugilists to repeat the success story inspired from Shooting, Wrestling and Weightlifting. India's rising shuttler P V Sindhu have advanced in the Women's Singles semi final. She defeated Kiwi Anna Rankin, in straight sets of 21-10, 21-9. P Kashyap defeated Malaysian D Liew 21-13, 21-14 to enter the semi final in Men's Singles. K Srikanth and RMV Gurusaidutt will also feature in Men's quarter final matches tonight whereas, PC Thulasi will be seen in quarter finals of Women's Singles. The duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will be seen in the quarterfinals of Women's Doubles. All India Radio will broadcast the live commentary of Badminton quarter final matches from 2255 hours to 0100 hours. It wil be available on Indraprastha Channel and FM Rainbow. Table Tennis, saw Men's pair reaching finals where they will face Singapore pair. In Hockey, the Indian Women's have finished 5th as they defeated Scotland 2-1 in the 5th-6th position match. Athletics will be the main event tonight as Delhi's Gold medallist Krishna Poonia along with Seema Punia will be vying for top honours as they figure in Women's Discus Throw Final. G. Nagaraj will also try her luck in the Women's High Jump Final. India's efforts are on to be restored up in the medals tally.
