CWC meeting in New Delhi in wake of poll debacle

The Congress Working Committee, the highest decision making body of the party, is meeting in New Delhi this evening to take stock of situation after party's rout in recently held Lok Sabha elections.

The party witnessed its worst-ever defeat securing just 44 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha.

The meeting will be chaired by party President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had owned responsibility for the party's poor showing after the poll results were declared last Friday.

The Working Committee is expected to endorse Sonia Gandhi's line of sharing collective responsibility in a bid to shield Rahul Gandhi who led the party's campaign for the elections.

All the members may resign taking collective responsibility for the defeat.
