Central Water Commission has joined hands with IIT Madras and IIS Bengaluru to help them procure specified equipment and software for enhancing their capability to support its dam rehabilitation efforts. <br/><br/>Water Resources Ministry has taken on board premier academic and research institutes for capacity building in the areas of dam safety through World Bank-assisted Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP). Under DRIP, assistance is being provided to seven states for rehabilitation of 250 dams, which are experiencing different levels of distress. <br/><br/>Owners of these dams require technical support for the investigation of site conditions and supporting rehabilitation efforts. The commission, yesterday signed two separate MoUs with IIT Madras and IIS Bengaluru in New Delhi in this regard. <br/><br/>The government has decided to enhance capability of select premier institutes in dam safety so that they can carry out field investigations and provide training and consulting services to the dam owners in their rehabilitation efforts.
