The Congress Working Committee, CWC today endorsed the economic reforms undertaken by the government. Party's top decision making body met this morning in New Delhi in the wake of recent political developments. The meeting was chaired by Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi. Talking to reporters, Party General Secretary and Chief Spokesman Janardan Dwivedi said Congress President Mrs Gandhi emphasised economic reforms and hence, the government has taken steps in this direction. Mr. Dwivedi said that the Congress President criticised the main oppositon party BJP for playing negative politics.
Mr Dwivedi said that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh noted that the flagship programmes cannot be implemented effectively till the economy is in a sound position.
The Finance Minister Mr P. Chidambaram, while addressing the members present in the meeting, said that the decisions the government has taken for reforms, are necessary for the country.
