CVC widens its probe into alleged irregularities in organizing Games

The Central Vigilance Commission, CVC has widened the scope of its probe into alleged irregularities in organizing the Common Wealth Games and projects related to it. The CVC is looking into at least 22 more Games-related construction and procurement works carried out by different government agencies for alleged financialirregularities. The CVC has also asked the Orgaising Committee to retain in India for investigations a sample of each item of the equipment and props hired from foreign suppliers for the 17 Games venues.The CAG will start the audit work of Commonwealth Games Village from 28th of this month to probe allegations of financial irregularities.Meanwhile, war of words broke out between Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and the OC Chairman Suresh Kalmadi after Mrs Dikshit said that the suspicion of corruption in the Commonwealth Games is on the Organising Committee.Mr Kalmadi hit back at Delhi Chief Minister saying that he will not allow the Organising Committee to be the scapegoats any more. He said, keeping quiet should not be construed as a sign of weakness.
