The Finance Ministry has advised banks to cut down their net non-performing assets, NPAs, and deal firmly with willful defaulters. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai on Friday, Financial Services Secretary Rajiv Takru said, banks have been asked to show no consideration to willful defaulters. Mr. Takru was in Mumbai to address a meeting of top bankers to discuss issues related to NPAs, direct benefit transfer to beneficiaries, opening up of new branches and the follow-up of the agriculture debt waiver scheme.
